Syracuse will claim 2010 NCAA Tournament crown
Posted March 16th, 2010 by havefunt
Tags:When the field was announced for the 2010 NCAA Tournament, one thing was clear: Syracuse and Duke would have the easiest paths to the Final Four as No. 1 seeds, while the top two No. 1 seeds in the tournament, Kansas and Kentucky, would have the toughest paths. Doesn't seem to make sense, but that's clearly how it turned out.

Tags:Providence visits Pittsburgh tonight (9 p.m. ESPN2) as 11-point underdogs. Pittsburgh, No. 17 in the country, is a dominant home team (15-1 this season) that will be looking to improve its NCAA Tournament seed as the season winds down. The Friars are a beaten down bunch, losers of eight straight. What Providence can do well is score.

Read more »Memphis visits UAB tonight (9 p.m. ET) in a pivotal game for both teams' NCAA tournament hopes. It's unlikely that Conference USA will field more than two teams in the Big Dance, and UTEP will be one of them. That means that only one other spot is open, and these are the two candidates.
NCAA hoops: Take Cal -4.5 over Washington (Feb. 11)

Tags:California hosts Washington tonight in a Pac-10 "clash" that could go a long way in determining who from this conference will make the NCAA tournament. The fact is, the conference stinks this year, with no teams ranked in the Top 25, and it's possible that only one team will make the tournament. I can't see more than two teams getting into the Dance, which is remarkable for a major conference.

Will 51-year-old Mark Martin finally break through and shed the label of "best driver to never win a championship"? Will Jimmie Johnson do the unprecedented -- again -- and boost his streak of consecutive championships, this time to five?

Tags:The Miami Hurricanes, who are 10-1 at home this season, are 1-point favorites tonight as they play host to the 20th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The teams have similar records -- Tech enters at 17-6, while Miami is 16-7 -- but Miami has struggle mightily as of late, losing 6 of 7.

Tags:Ah, yes, Super Bowl Sunday is finally here, and with it comes hundreds of proposition bets to keep bettors stimulated every second of the game. Game's a blowout? Who cares, as long as the winning team pours red Gatorade over its coach to celebrate (yes, the color of the Gatorade is a real prop bet). Or as long as the last penalty of the game is called on the Saints.

Tags:No. 5 Michigan State, which has won 10 in a row, visits No. 16 Wisconsin tonight (Feb. 2, 9 p.m., ESPN) as 2-point underdogs. The home teams is 9-2 in the last 11 in this series, and that trend will hold true tonight, as the Badgers are the pick here.

Tags:Northwestern travels to East Lansing tonight (Jan. 30, 7 p.m. ET) to take on No. 5 Michigan State, winners of nine straight. The Spartans are terrific at home, but I like the Wildcats to stay close enough to cover the 13. Northwestern won on this court last year, so the team won't be intimidated by this road match-up.

Tags:Is it possible to be 19-0, ranked No. 1, and be overrated? That's how I feel about Kentucky. I'll put that feeling to the test tonight (Jan. 26, 9 p.m. ET, ESPN) when I take South Carolina, losers of three straight, getting just seven points in Columbia.

The Hawks have won the only two meetings between these teams this year by a combined five points, with both wins coming on Atlanta's home floor. The Hawks just finished a six-game home stand in which they went 5-1. Houston, meanwhile, is coming off a home loss to Chicago on Saturday night.

Tags:Minnesota Vikings QB Brett Favre is one game away from a return to the Super Bowl at age 40. It would make for a great story, but it's one that will have to be written in a different year, as the New Orleans Saints are going to advance to the franchise's first Super Bowl by beating -- and covering the spread against -- the Vikings on Sunday (Jan. 24, 6:40 p.m., FOX).

The Golden Eagles have lost twice to No. 4 Villanova by a mere two points, while Depaul lost to the Wildcats by 27. Marquette has beaten No. 11 Georgetown, while Depaul, 0-5 in the Big East, lost to the Hoyas by 17.

Tags:The Cowboys visit the Vikings today (Jan. 17, 1 p.m., FOX) in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs. Minnesota opened as 3-point favorites, but bettors seem to be favoring the red-hot Cowboys, as the line has dipped to 2.5. For my money though, Minnesota, who is perfect (8-0) at home this season, is the pick here.
